2013 Scion FR-S Brings the SPORT Back to the CAR

  • Compact rear-wheel drive sports car makes world debut

  • Low centre of gravity and lightweight design achieves a “Pure Balance”

  • World’s first boxer engine to utilize Toyota’s D4-S direct and port injection system

In preparation for its spring 2012 on sale timing, Scion unveiled its much anticipated fifth model, the 2013 high-performance coupe FR-S compact rear-wheel drive sports car.

The FR-S, which stands for Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport is Scion’s definition of an authentic rear-wheel-drive sports car with exceptionally balanced performance and handling, compelling style, flexible utility and surprising fuel economy.

“Scion continues to push boundaries following its first year of sales in Canada,” said Larry Hutchinson, Director of Scion in Canada. “With a lineup including the iconic xB, the adrenalized tC and the innovative iQ, the FR-S is a halo, taking Scion to a new level of driving performance.”

The FR-S is a true “scion,” born into a lengthy history of Toyota performance cars and motorsports. The sports car is most inspired by the AE86 generation of the Corolla, better known as the Hachi-Roku, meaning “8-6” in Japanese. The front-engine, rear-wheel-drive coupe was lightweight and well balanced, making it a solid choice for driving enthusiasts.

Inspired by the AE86, the FR-S is designed around the core goal of achieving, “Pure Balance.” The balance begins with the strategic use of the world’s only flat boxer engine in a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. The engine’s compact size and flat shape allow it to be mounted mid-ship and extremely low, giving the car a dynamically favorable front-to-rear weight ratio of 53:47 and a low centre of gravity comparable to some exotic supercars.

The FR-S’s 2.0-litre, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine is the result of a joint development between Toyota and Subaru. The partnership begins by combining Subaru’s newly developed horizontally opposed engine and Toyota’s cutting edge D-4S injection system that incorporates both direct and port injection. The D-4S system, partnered with a high 12.5:1 compression ratio, results in an impressive 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque.

“The FR-S will achieve impressive horsepower and torque, all while it delivers equally impressive fuel economy,” Hutchinson said.

The flat-four mates with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual offers quick, precise shifts with a short-throw; while the automatic transmission features aggressive up shifts and sporty rev-matched down shifts that are initiated by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Power is transferred to the pavement via a limited-slip differential.

The idea of “Pure Balance” is further realized by the FR-S’s lightweight design and compact size. The combination allows the car to be quick and nimble into and out of corners, with dynamic maneuverability and confident handling. The coupe’s weight is kept to a minimum by utilizing an aluminum hood, a solid roof, and by featuring a trunk design instead of a hatchback.

The FR-S’s low weight is matched with a dynamically tuned suspension setup consisting of MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone system in the rear. Lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels and ventilated disc brakes are on all four corners.

The fierce exterior of the FR-S is a solid reflection of its inner power. The profile, inspired by the Toyota 2000GT, reveals a hood and roof-line that is remarkably sleek and low, giving it an aerodynamic shape that channels air cleanly over to the top. The low stance continues to exaggerate the coupe’s menacing face, which is made up of sharp lines, a wide mouth and angular headlights. The aggressive front fenders protrude upward and boast the iconic ‘86’ piston emblem, which highlights the car’s AE86 heritage as well as its unique new boxer engine. The rear fascia sits low and wide, with aerodynamic lower treatments that surround the sporty dual exhaust system. LEDs illuminate the edgy taillights, while centre-mounted backup lights finish the muscular design.

The FR-S’s interior features a 2+2 seating configuration that is designed with both form and function in mind. The front seats are mounted extremely low and are comfortable yet assertive, while the rear seat folds down flat, creating flexible space. The large centre-mounted tachometer is the focus of the three-gauge cluster, keeping the driver informed of the engine’s vitals. Speed is monitored by both digital and analog gauges.

Scion and Manifesto Take It to The Hood

The Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture is one of Canada’s largest hip hop festivals, bringing together hundreds of artists & performers with thousands of attendees. This year, the festival runs from September 15th through to the 25th, showcasing Toronto’s talented arts community and building a sense of pride and possibility.

Scion has now joined forces with Manifesto as the proud presenter of All Good On the Hood – an integrated community arts program, gallery, auction and competition, in which 13 of Toronto’s most talented artists will create unique works of art on the hoods of Scion cars. Each of the 13 artists attended events at Scion dealerships across the GTA creating an original painting on the hood of a Scion vehicle in the weeks leading up to Manifesto. These incredible creations will be sold at a silent auction at 99 Sudbury on September 23 to raise money for Manifesto’s charitable work in the Toronto arts community. The most popular hoods will then compete for a $2,000 cash prize at Manifesto’s main event at Yonge-Dundas Square on September 25.

Event details are below – contact a participating Scion dealer near you for more details.

Voting and Silent Auction

On September 23rd, after all of the dealership events are concluded, the completed hoods will be showcased while mounted on Scion vehicles, at 99 Sudbury, as part of the festival’s all styles dance event - The Movement.

Throughout the event, attendees can cast their vote for their favourite hood. Plus, from 8 to 11pm, attendees can participate in a silent auction, with the highest bidders taking home their one-of-a-kind artworks at the conclusion of the festival.

The top 5 vote-getters in the favourites competition will move on to the final competition during the headline event, Live in the Square, September 25th from 12 noon to 11 pm at Yonge-Dundas Square.

Everyone Wins

The artist of the most popular hood will get $2,000 from Scion Canada. Plus, anyone who votes for their favourite hood during the events at 99 Sudbury and Yonge-Dundas Square will be entered to win a 14th custom hood, designed by leading Toronto graffiti artist RCade. The winners will be announced on the 25th, during the Live in the Square event.

All proceeds from the "All Good On the Hood" competition will support Manifesto's Friends of Community & Culture initiatives.

Introducing the 2012 Scion iQ, Canada’s premium micro subcompact, available from $16,760*.

July 20, 2011 - Toronto

Scion is thrilled to announce that the Scion iQ is now available for pre-sale and will arrive at Scion Dealerships across Canada this fall. “The Scion family is getting bigger, with the addition of the world’s smallest four-person passenger car – the convention-busting iQ,” said Larry Hutchinson, Director of Scion in Canada. “The iQ delivers big ideas about what a small, savvy vehicle can be – with innovative style inside and out, surprising comfort and versatility, an impressive list of standard features, and a full catalogue of Scion certified parts and accessories to make each iQ an individual statement.”

Small, yet spacious

Starting at just $16,760, the Scion iQ is one of the most innovative and value-laden small cars on the road. Only 3 meters long, iQ is loaded with ingenious engineering advancements, like the ultra-compact air conditioning unit and slim-back seats with integrated headrests, that maximize the use of the interior space and enable iQ to achieve its status as the only premium micro subcompact four-seater on the market.

Design Edge

iQ’s sharp contours, low profile and 2 metre wide stance give it a strong, muscular appearance. Inside, cutting-edge design features include a Manta Ray-shaped instrument panel, available in custom colours, and a parking brake positioned beside the shift lever to maximize space and functionality. Finishing touches like a flat-bottomed leather-wrapped steering wheel extend the premium experience.

Driving Efficiency

The new 1.3 L, 94 hp, 4 cylinder engine with dual VVT-i has been combined with a seamless Continually Variable Transmission to offer maximum performance with impressive efficiency. And combined fuel economy of 5.1 L/100 km** makes iQ one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in Canada.

Make Your Move

A turning radius under 3.9 metres – the smallest on the market - allows you to enjoy outstanding manoeuvrability, even on narrow city streets. And that’s not all. iQ’s innovative structure enables the 16” wheels to be positioned at the far corners of the vehicle, improving both stability and agility. As a result iQ offers expert handling in urban environments and a level of highway stability previously unimaginable for a vehicle of its size.

Innovative Safety

iQ offers world-class safety performance with 6 active technologies like ABS and VSC that form the Scion Star Safety System™, plus eleven standard airbags. These consist of seven different types, including all-new rear curtain and seat cushion airbags, side airbag, knee airbag and curtain shield airbags, in addition to driver and front passenger airbags.

No Compromise

Scion’s “mono-spec” packaging means iQ comes in one extremely well-equipped model, with a long list of standard features not expected in an entry level vehicle. And customization opportunities abound, with Scion and TRD accessories. From standard air-conditioning and keyless entry, to 16” wheels, leather-wrapped steering, and a high-end Pioneer stereo, iQ drivers will not compromise. And at the highly competitive price of $16,760, iQ enthusiasts will be lining up to drive theirs home.

The Scion iQ is available for pre-order today. See your Scion Dealer for full details.

North American Toyota production expected to reach 100 per cent in September: Parts recovery is earlier than anticipated

June 16, 2011

North American vehicle production levels are expected to return to 100 percent in September, Toyota said today. Production is recovering earlier than originally anticipated following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

On average, current production has improved to more than 80 percent through August. Eight of the company’s 12 North American-built models returned to 100 percent production on June 6.

“We applaud the many, many team members and suppliers who have worked tirelessly to help get us back to 100 per cent production volume,” said Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada President, Brian Krinock. “Considering the devastation in Japan, we are very appreciative of the incredible effort required to make this happen. Over the next months, we will focus on recovering as much production as possible at TMMC.”

"Toyota's manufacturing team members in North America and around the world are the best in the business." said Tony Wearing, Managing Director, Toyota Canada, Inc. "Their efforts mean that Canadian customers can shop with confidence because our dealerships have vehicles with more arriving daily,” added Wearing “During our Big Selection Big Savings promotion, customers also have the benefit of aggressive cash and incentives offers.”

TMMC produces the Toyota Corolla, Matrix, and RAV4 and the Lexus RX350. The Lexus RX350 and Toyota RAV4 will ramp up to 100 per cent production in September from their current 60 per cent and 25 per cent levels. The Corolla/Matrix line returned to 100 per cent production on June 6.

Scion Announces Three Finalists For First Ever Tuner Challenge

SCION ANNOUNCES THREE FINALISTS FOR FIRST EVER TUNER CHALLENGE

April 28, 2011 - Toronto

Scion announces the three finalists for its first ever Canadian Scion Tuner Challenge. Now the real battle begins. Each team has received a brand new Scion xD, xB or tC and has been given three months to create the ultimate Scion show car - armed with $10,000 and access to the full line-up of Scion Authorized Accessories and the TRD catalogue.

At stake is an entry at the ultimate tuner show, SEMA, in Las Vegas. Interested Canadians can track each team’s build online, and compete for prizes throughout the competition – including a trip for two to Vegas to join the winning team at the show!

Meet The Teams

The winning xB design was submitted by SR Auto Group. Hailing from Richmond, BC, this gang of eight has been modifying exotic rides for more than a decade. Their design - titled Anarchy - features a minimalist approach with a military-inspired vibe. Outside, DL Style B-Magic Body Kit and Spoiler, team up with Modulare M23 19” Wheels and a host of custom touches, like hand painted Eccentric Blue Lug Nuts. Inside, a full black suede interior is set off by blue LED accent lighting, and features a 32” LED LCD TV. Performance modifications draw heavy on TRD, including a Big Brake Kit, Strut Tower Brace, Sway Bar, Exhaust System and Supercharger.

Camo Customs, from Lachine, QC, chose the xD as their canvas. Another group that has been on the tuner scene for a decade, Camo specializes in bodywork, with a penchant for modifying racecars and motorcycles. ‘Wild Mild’ was their inspiration—a car with WOW factor that remains street legal. Their mint green candy xD will feature a TRD Body Kit, Spoiler, Exhaust, and Air Intake, custom lighting inside and out, and an in-dash multi-media centre backed up by a subwoofer with a custom box set-up.

Team TDS out of Toronto, Ontario, caught the judges eye with their build plans for a Scion tC. Titled ‘Chocolate Love’ - for obvious reasons - this group of veteran tuner enthusiasts puts the custom in customization. Their modifications call for custom fabricated wheel arch over-fenders, rear diffuser, exhaust system with powder coated gold exhaust tip, trunk lid spoiler, turbo system, and floor mats. The entertainment system includes mobile video screens, head unit, speakers, amps and subwoofers.

Follow The Action - Enter To Win

The three entries will be showcased at the 2011 Toronto and Montreal ImportFest shows, with the grand winner to be announced onsite in Montreal. Tuner enthusiasts can follow the action every step of the way at tunerchallenge.ca and enter the contest for a chance to join the winning team at SEMA in Vegas. Scion FR-S Sports Coupe Concept Designed to Incite Passion

Scion Introduces FR-S Sports Coupe Concept at 2011 New York Auto Show

April 20, 2011 - New York

Scion Introduces FR-S Sports Coupe Concept at 2011 New York Auto Show

Rear-wheel drive concept makes world debut. Design focus of Pure Balance. Boxer engine utilizes Toyota’s D4-S direct and port injection system.

Scion unveiled the rear-wheel drive FR-S Concept sports coupe today at the 2011 New York International Auto Show. The concept, which sets out to stimulate the souls of true driving enthusiasts, will be at the Scion display through May 1. The FR-S Concept will inspire a new model coming to the Scion brand next year.
The FR-S Concept, which stands for Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport; is Scion’s definition of an authentic rear-wheel-drive sports car with compelling style, exceptionally balanced performance and handling, flexible utility and surprising fuel efficiency.

“As a brand, Scion is about delivering a new kind of vehicle experience that excites, inspires and encourages individuality,” said Larry Hutchinson, Director of Scion in Canada. “The FR-S concept demonstrates Scion’s commitment to continuing to push the envelope of vehicle design, performance and function, as we have done so over the years with the introduction of the iconic xB and xD, the aggressive tC and the micro-subcompact iQ.”

“Bringing passionate spirit and excitement back to Toyota is a commitment that Akio Toyoda has made to our customers,” Hutchinson continued. “The Scion FR-S Concept captures that direction and spirit.”

The FR-S is a true “scion,” born into a lengthy history of Toyota performance cars and motorsports. The sports coupe is most inspired by the AE86 generation of the Corolla, better known as the Hachi-Roku, meaning “8-6” in Japanese. The front-engine, rear-wheel drive coupe was lightweight and well balanced, making it a solid choice for driving enthusiasts.

Inspired by the AE86, the FR-S is built around the core goal of achieving “pure balance,” which begins with the strategic placement of a flat 2.0-litre boxer engine in a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. The engine’s compact size and shape allows the FR-S’ powertrain to be mounted lower and further back towards the rear, giving the car a lower center of gravity and a dynamically favourable front-to-rear weight ratio.

The FR-S’ naturally-aspirated engine is innovative, being the first boxer to incorporate Toyota’s D4-S injection system, which utilizes both direct and port injection, resulting in increased horsepower and torque throughout the entire powerband, without sacrificing fuel efficiency.

The flat-four can mate with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual offers quick and precise shifts with a short-throw, while the automatic transmission features aggressive, sporty shifts that are initiated by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Power is distributed effectively via a limited-slip differential.

The idea of “pure balance” is further realized by the FR-S’ lightweight design and short wheelbase. The combination allows the car to be quick and nimble into and out of any corner, with dynamic manoeuvrability and confident stability.

The fierce exterior of the FR-S is a good reflection of its inner power. The intimidating proportions of the concept give it a dominant stance that bleeds performance. The profile, inspired by the Toyota 2000GT, reveals a hood-line that is remarkably sleek and low, made possible by the boxer’s architecture.

The low stance continues to exaggerate the FR-S’ menacing face, which is made up of sharp lines, a wide mouth and angular headlights that include bright LED clusters.
The solid panel roofline is sleek, lightweight and rigid, slotted with an aerodynamic shape that channels air cleanly over to the top.

The front fenders protrude upward, making space for the massive monoblock Five Axis 20x8.5-inch wheels, while the muscular rear fenders are widened to house the 20x10.5-inch wheels, emphasizing the FR-S’ staggered stance and rear-wheel-drive setup.

The rear fascia sits low and wide, with extensive lower treatments that surround the dual exhaust exits and contribute to excellent aerodynamics. LEDs illuminate both the edgy taillights and the bold “SCION” logo.

The concept features four-piston-caliper front brakes that clamp down on monstrous 18-inch annular carbon ceramic matrix rotors that are fixed to the wheels in a motorcycle-fashion.

The FR-S Concept is layered in rich coats of Code Red, the appropriately named color that that consists of a custom blend of candy and a developmental additive from BASF called Mearlite SSQ.

Toyota Statement Regarding Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

Toyota Statement Regarding Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

Following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Toyota’s number one priority is to support our team members, our partner companies, suppliers and dealers through this situation. On behalf of the company globally, TMC is moving to donate 300 million yen (approximately $3.75 million) for relief and recovery efforts in communities affected by the Tohoku Earthquake and is also considering the provision of goods and services as needed.

In Canada, anyone wishing to make a contribution to support the ongoing relief efforts in Japan is encouraged to visit the Canadian Red Cross for more information:

Canadian Red Cross

We will continue to provide updates here as new information becomes available

Current Update

April 15, 2011

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) offers its most-sincere sympathies to those affected by the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake.

As TMC continues to address its production situation in Japan following the disaster, it has decided that vehicle production from May 10 to June 3 will proceed at approximately 50 per cent of normal. TMC will decide on production after this period after assessing the situation of its suppliers and other related companies.

Today’s decision follows TMC’s previously announced decision to produce vehicles at all its Japanese vehicle-production facilities from April 18 to April 27 at approximately 50 percent of normal and for all production facilities to enter their annual spring holiday through May 9.

TMC deeply apologizes to its customers for not being able to build every vehicle to meet their desired specifications due to limited parts.

Previous Updates:

April 8, 2011

Toyota is adjusting North American production due to parts availability following the March 11 Japan earthquake.

Over the next few weeks, Toyota’s North American vehicle plants will operate on a reduced schedule, with production suspended on April 15, 18, 21*, 22**, and 25. Most of the company’s North American engine and component plants will follow the same schedule. Future production plans will be determined at a later date.

On these non-production days, the company will continue to provide employment for its approximately 25,000 regular North American team members. Team members not required to work may report to work for training and plant improvement activities, use vacation, or take unpaid time off.

On average, around 85 per cent of the parts and materials for the 12 North American-built Toyota and Lexus models are sourced from 500 suppliers on this continent. While production of some parts and materials continues in Japan, Toyota is working closely with affected suppliers in order to minimize the impact.

The situation in Japan affects many automakers and many other industries. Extraordinary efforts are underway to help suppliers recover. Toyota is slowing down to conserve parts yet maintain production as much as possible and appreciates the flexibility of team members, suppliers and dealers as we work through these issues.

*The Georgetown, Ky. plant will build vehicles on April 21.

**Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada will be closed for Good Friday on April 22.

We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.

March 30, 2011

Canadian Scion, Toyota and Lexus dealers have established a fund with the Canadian Red Cross to assist with relief efforts in Japan. Click here to find out more.

March 14, 2011

We continue to place priority on supporting the relief efforts in the regions affected and ensuring that our team members, the employees at subsidiary vehicle manufacturers and at our suppliers—and all their respective family members—are safe.

To that end, we are halting production at all plants in Japan (including subsidiary vehicle manufacturers) from March 14 through March 16.

We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.

March 13, 2011

Toyota's associates and team members in North America extend our heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the people of Japan, our colleagues and their families.

Our utmost concern has been the safety of all Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) team members and team members at our partner companies in the Tohoku region.

TMC has established a company-wide emergency task force to continually assess the situation and take initial measures.

There have been no reported injuries at Toyota operations, including the Tokyo head office, the Higashifuji facility, Tochigi office, Yamanashi office, Toyota Motor Tohoku facilities and at TMC subsidiary vehicle manufacturers.

While TMC plants were able to restart production on 3/11, plants that stopped production are Toyota subsidiary plants that produce parts and vehicles, including:

  • Toyota Motor Hokkaido Plant

  • Toyota Motor Tohoku Plant

  • Central Motor Corporation Miyagi Plant, which also produces the Yaris model.

  • Kanto Auto Works Iwate Plant, which also produces the Scion xB and Scion xD

Employees at these facilities were evacuated to safe areas.

We are now conducting a detailed survey of each plant to determine the extent of any damage. We are also currently assessing the situation at our suppliers, dealers and the impact on North American import vehicles.

As we are committed to ensuring the safety of our team members and their families, Toyota has decided to suspend production at all TMC plants, as well as all subsidiary vehicle-manufacturing plants on Monday, March 14th.

Toyota’s number one priority is to support our team members at TMC, our partner companies, suppliers and dealers through this situation. On behalf of the company globally, TMC is moving to donate 300 million yen (approximately $3.75 million) for relief and recovery efforts in communities affected by the Tohoku Earthquake and is also considering the provision of goods and services as needed.

We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.

Voluntary Safety Campaign to Replace Tire Loading Labels on Nine Toyota and Scion Vehicles in Canada

Voluntary Safety Campaign to Replace Tire Loading Labels on Nine Toyota and Scion Vehicles in Canada

Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) will conduct a voluntary safety campaign to replace tire loading labels on a total of nine vehicles including certain 2010 FJ Cruiser, 2011 Tacoma and 2011 Scion xB models.

The affected vehicles may have been delivered with certain accessory alloy wheels and tires that were different in size and recommended tire inflation from the original equipment tires. Toyota and Scion dealerships will install a new tire loading label bearing the tire size and recommended inflation for the tires installed at the time of delivery. The new label will be provided at no charge to owners.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by first class mail and requested to bring their vehicle to a Toyota or Scion dealership to have the new label installed.

Detailed information and answers to questions are available to customers at the Toyota Customer Interaction Centre at 1-888-TOYOTA-8. Additional vehicle safety information is available at www.toyota.ca

Enter the Canadian Scion Tuner Challenge and Win Big

Enter the Canadian Scion Tuner Challenge and Win Big

What would you do with $10,000, access to the Toyota Racing Development and Scion Authorized accessory catalogues, and a Scion xB, xD or tC? That’s the question posed by the first Canadian Scion Tuner Challenge.

And whoever answers it with the best modified ride wins a trip to Las Vegas for the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show and the chance to show off their winning entry at the world’s premier automotive products trade show, not to mention $5,000 in prize money and an iPad. Second and third place designs also score with cash prizes and Scion gear.

“Canadian Scion tuners, this is your chance to show off your unique vision and tuner talent on a world stage and to a professional audience,” said Larry Hutchinson, Director of Scion in Canada. “Impress us, and we’ll send you and your winning Scion to SEMA for the duration of the show.”

To enter, custom tuners must submit an original idea for their customization to Scion Canada before March 31, 2011. Three regional finalists will be chosen based on a number of criteria, from creative design and in-car entertainment features, to horsepower and cosmetic improvements, to braking and suspension systems. Each finalist will be asked to customize a 2011 xB, xD, or tC, provided with $10,000, and access to a wealth of customization possibilities. The results will be shown at the 2011 Toronto and Montreal ImportFest shows, with the overall winner to be announced onsite in Montreal.

Anyone looking for inspiration will find a showcase vehicle at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto: a 2011 tC designed by Sciontario.com founder Andrew DaCosta. The Scion display - which will also feature the all-new 2012 Scion iQ - is located at the 300 level of the North Building at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Inspiration can also be found anytime at www.scionnation.ca/scion/accessories, where you can view a catalogue of Scion Authorized Accessories and Toyota Racing Development performance parts. Sixteen new parts are coming to Canada this spring, so stay tuned and get ready to take your own customization creativity to the next level.

Scion iQ makes Canadian Debut

Scion Returns to Igloofest

Scion unveiled its newest member at the Montreal International Auto Show. The iQ is the world’s first premium micro-subcompact and goes on sale in Canada later this year.

“iQ is the boldest example to date of the Scion brand philosophy,” said Larry Hutchinson, Director of Scion Canada. “It is the ultimate small, urban-friendly and fuel efficient vehicle that is also big on style, features, functionality, and safety.”

Inside, outside and under the hood, iQ carries the idea that big ideas come in small packages. At only 305 cm in length, iQ offers a turning radius of 3.9 metres, making it easy to maneuver and park. At the same time, wide-door opening and long-slide front seats make it easy for front and rear occupants to get in and out.

The 1.3 litre Dual VVT-i engine is equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that delivers a class-leading 90 horsepower. iQ is also expected to achieve fuel consumption of just over 5 litres per 100km - comparable to vehicles of similar size that offer less passenger and cargo-capacity - coupled with a Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions rating.

When it comes to safety, iQ is bigger than most, with 10 standard airbags, including the world’s first rear-window curtain airbag, and Scion’s Star Safety System™, which includes six active braking technologies.

Like all Scion’s, iQ will be outfitted with a long list of standard features, full fledged audio system, and will be highly customizable. Register for Updates or LIKE us on Facebook to be amongst the first to receive iQ updates.

““Take On the Machine” for a chance to win a 2011 Scion tC

Scion is excited to introduce the “Take On The Machine” augmented reality game and contest, launching in Canada on Jan 13, 2011.

“Take On The Machine” is similar to a movement-based gaming console where players print an encoded marker that serves as their steering wheel. Holding the marker in front of a webcam, players can navigate through the menacing cityscape, beat the best times, and unlock additional, modified tCs.

The grand prize for one lucky winner? A brand new 2011 Scion tC! Build and Price your dream tC here.

Players don’t have to beat the fastest time to win, they just have to play the game.

The tC game will make its debut at the Montreal Auto Show, on Jan 13, 2011 as well as being available at scionnation.ca/machine for those people who want to try it at home.

No webcam? No problem! You can play for your chance to win using keyboard controls as well.
